Founded in 1953, Mac Equipment and Steel Co. is a third-generation scrap yard located in Rutland, VT.

David Mac—a Holocaust survivor from Poland who immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island—was working as a custodian at the Economy Department Store when he saw an opportunity in collecting and selling scrap metal. He founded his original salvage business in 1953 and after quickly outgrowing that location, he relocated in 1955 to where the business currently sits. Now the father-and-son team of Israel (Irv) and Josh Mac run the operation.

Mac Steel had a brief hiatus and a restructuring of the business in 2023. They re-opened Monday, October 2 under the new operating name MacScrap as a full service scrapyard. Whether buying or selling, industrial or artistic, customers can still find what they are looking for at Mac Steel.
